Cardiff Transition Project Show, Share & Tell – a vibrant success!
July 13th 2010 saw the first Show, Share & Tell session in Zero Degrees, Cardiff’s microbrewery on Westgate St. The event, coordinated by the Cardiff Transition Project (CTP), attracted nearly 50 people who came to hear about a wide variety of projects that are helping transform Cardiff into a sustainable city.
Those who attended heard about Friends of Insole Court, Canton Carbon Cutters, Taff’s Well Community Garden, Co-housing Cymru, Food Fight and Feed the 5000, ARK, Friends of Clare Gardens, Orchard Cardiff and Cardiff Civic Society. Several non-speakers also circulated information about their own events too, like the Taff Tidy event due to take place in September. Participants also had the opportunity to discuss how these projects contribute to make Cardiff more sustainable and resilient and how these contributions could be amplified.
Contact details for all the speakers can be found below.
As well as more Show & Tell events, the CTP plan to organise Give & Take events (G&T) which will be more informal discussions around sustainable and transition themes or issues the people of Cardiff are keen to find out more about. Any suggestions or requests for discussion topics will be welcome.
Dates for your diary! The next CTP events will be:
Wednesday August 25th in Zero Degrees 6 – 8pm
Transition Give & Take – come along for a drink and chat. This will be a good opportunity for people interested to find out more about the goings-on of sustainability projects in Cardiff, as well as provide an opportunity for those that came to the Show & Tell to follow up on any conversations that were started!Wednesday September 22nd (location TBC) 7 – 9pm
Transition Give & Take – come & participate in an in-depth discussion around urban food projects.
It is hoped that similar events will take place throughout the year. We will keep you posted as the programme develops.

WAG Facilitation Support Meeting
The Welsh Assembly Government is making facilitation support available to community groups working in the area of climate change. We felt that this was a golden opportunity for everyone who either is already involved in Transition and/or Transition-related activities or has a burning desire to become more involved to come together and have a think about what next.
The meeting will have two overarching objectives:
1. Provide a platform for people who are keen to get actively involved in transition stuff to develop their ideas,
2. Create a space to consider how transition could be an umbrella for the things that we are involved in or interested in initiating and how this might work in practice,
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 30th March from 4-9pm. Location and room TBC.
April is 'Fix the food chain month'
Transition has the chance to join up with others to show that good local food in Cardiff is a great thing. A call is going out to get as much food-related stuff going on in April as possible. April food month is an idea that emerged under the umbrella of the 'Cardiff Food Alliance' and Friends of the Earth are running a campaign on the topic. The aim is to include all interested groups and people - an excuse if you like, to eat, drink and be conspicuously merry about good food in Cardiff.
Some transitioners are already planning simple things like writing about trips to local markets, sharing good recipes or having a dinner party using local ingredients and there are plans in Cardiff East to show films about food in local food selling bars/cafes/restaurants.
It would be phantastic if people joined up together in Cardiff West, East, North or did their own thing with friends and made sure that we show what is going on and that Transition is helping to 'fix the food chain' in April.
To do this, we have a web page/blog to gather ideas, events, recipes etc. (http://cardifffoodchain.wordpress.com) for people to post. If you don't want to use the blog, but are doing something, just e-mail us with your details (info@cardifftransitionproject.org.uk and we'll post it up.

COPENHAGEN WAKE-UP CALL - CARDIFF CHAPTER!
Promoted by Cardiff Transition, September 21 saw Cardiff’s Queen Street mobbed to draw attention to December’s Copenhagen Summit, and to put pressure on politicians to work towards an effective, just and credible settlement to reduce emissions, build resilience and tackle climate change.
The action was part of a global Wake-Up Call campaign orchestrated by avaaz.org
